Broad Peak lies between K2 and Gasherbrum peaks, it is one of 8000 peaks towering above Concordia in the middle of Karakoram Range dominating the whole range ahead of Baltoro Glacier. Broad Peak is called so for Broad Peak is named for the vast bulk and it is wide open at the top, local people call it Falchan Kangri. Its magnificent existence dominates the whole environment.
It was first climbed on June 9, 1957, by a group of mountaineers; Fritz Wintersteller, Marcus Schmuck, Kurt Diemberger Hermann Buhl of an Austrian expedition led by Marcus Schmuck. This expedition was completed without any oxygen aid or any help of high altitude porters or base camp support.
The expedition involves trekking on a rock gully to Camp 1 which is on an altitude of 6000m followed by a massive snow face. We will reach camp II, and the final camp will be set at 74000m from where the summit will be made.
The trek will not completely steep, it is the remoteness which will make this expedition rewarding.
Several winter expeditions have been made to Broad Peak since 1987 and 88. Andrez Azwada; a renown Polish mountaineer led the first expedition. First International Winter Expedition to K2 with other mountaineers from Poland, Canada, and Great Britain. On their failure to climb K-2 they attempted to summit Broad Peak and only reached Fore Prak.
In 2005. Denis Urubko and Serguey Samoiloy explored and a new route from the south and reached to the top of a peak in Alpine style. Another expedition group lead by Valery Babanov reached to top through a variation route in Alpine style in 2008.
A thrilling jeep expedition will drive up the spectacular valley of Shigar to Askole; the trek to base camp, each night we will put our camps in the enchanted valley and enjoy the starry nights.
Paiyu will be our last camping site just before the start of Mighty Baltoro Glacier. The route will then follow the left route of Icy Baltoro Glacier crossing the beautiful views of Trango Group, It will take 3 days to base camp.
